Continuity/Script Supervision

The Continuity or Script Supervision Department oversees the continuity of the script throughout the filmmaking process.

Recommended Skills for working in the Continuity/Script Supervision Department:

A combination of demonstrated skills such as a strong sense of screenwriting, script structure, storytelling, the ability to visualize a script, the editing process and photography. Experience as a writer, producer, director or filmmaker is an asset.

+ Script Supervisor

The Script Supervisor is responsible for the preparation of the script. They keep track of timing, assist in the blocking of scenes, note deviations from the script as well as actions, positions or camera angles. Tasks also include noting slate numbers, preparing lists of pickup shots and wild sound tracks, as well as making continuity notes for the Editor. The Script Supervisor will send daily reports to the Production Office.

+ Script Assistant

The Script Assistant assists the Script Supervisor. Tasks include adding revisions to the script, checking new versions of the script with the sound and camera departments, taking photos of set ups and adding new lines to the Editor’s script. They also run lines with performers and maintain forms and supplies.

Requirements for the Continuity/Script Supervision Department:

Non-Union Recommendations

  • Film Training Manitoba courses:

    • Set Orientation

    • WHMIS

    • Safety Awareness

  • Basic First Aid

  • Script Supervisor course

  • Post-secondary education in a Film or Theatre program

  • Broadcast Communications program specializing in television or media production

  • Employment with a theatre or media production company, community broadcaster or as an editor

  • Manitoba driver’s license

  • Resume
